SK E&C has completed construction of Hwaseong SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) power plant which is the biggest and most efficient of its kind in Asia, and is also commencing the commercial operation of Paju SOFC power plant.
The Hwaseong SOFC power plant production capacity is 19.8MW, Asia’s biggest. The power plant is expected to supply 165,000MWh per year to approximately 43,000 households in region at an impressive 95% utilization rate and 56% operational efficiency which is the highest among comparable SOFC power plants. In addition, Paju SOFC power plant rated at 8.1MW has also entered into commercial operation. SK E&C will derive momentum from these projects to further develop business models customized to meet the needs of local communities for shared prosperity.
Meanwhile, in January this year, SK E&C incorporated Bloom-SK Fuel Cell – a SOFC production joint venture in Korea – in partnership with US Bloom Energy which is a global fuel cell power generation solution supplier. The company commenced fuel cell production in July. SK E&C plans to gradually ramp up power generation capacity from the initial 50MW to 400MW per year and further enhance the ‘One Team Operation’ framework in close cooperation with Bloom Energy to continue to prospect for business opportunities in the global market.
