MWC is the world’s biggest mobile tech fair organized by GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association) and it is one of the world’s top 3 ICT exhibitions. AI ushers in great transformation in all domains of our industries and society
On February 26 (local time), one day before the curtains rose to MWC 2023 visitors, SK telecom held a press conference in the venue and announced its vision as an AI company to spearhead epoch-making transformation ushered in by AI across the entire industrial and societal spectrum. In the press conference, CEO Ryu Young-sang of SK telecom unveiled the commitment of AI to Everywhere leveraging SK telecom’s AI services and technologies to spearhead innovation in five areas including customer/technology, space-time, advanced interactive eXecutive (AIX), core BM and ESG. Furthermore, the company partnered with industry-leading AI tech firms to build the K-AI alliance thereby competing with big tech giants on the global arena. By so doing, SK telecom revealed its aspiration to usher in great AI transformation to enable all generations/businesses/industries to enjoy the benefits of AI.
SK telecom brings together future ICT solutions enabled by AI
At MWC 2023, SK telecom laid out an exclusive exhibition pavilion in Fira Gran Via Hall 3 and showcased innovative technologies including AI, UAM, and 6G. The hall is the key exhibition estate traditionally favored by visitors, intensively featuring future technologies and solutions of global ICT giants. SK telecom was the one and only Korean mobile carrier admitted to Fira Gran Via Hall 3, standing on par with other global big tech ICT giants including Samsung Electronics, Deutsch Telecom, Qualcomm and Nokia and appealing the global audience with technologies and services that can enable them to peep into the company’s evolution toward becoming an AI company.
Winning two GLOMO awards/Continuing with 4-year-streak of winning GLOMO
In the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) 2023 organized annually by GSMA, SK telecom claimed two awards with G-EYE Plus which is a high-precision location-based navigation for the sight-handicapped using positioning AI solution VLAM, and LITMUS which is an AI-enabled location analysis platform. In particular, the company won GLOMO awards for four consecutive years in the ‘Best Use of Mobile for Accessibility & Inclusion’ category in recognition of its continuous efforts to create social values.
Chairman Chey Tae-won vowing to be an AI Enabler visits MWC for the first time
Chairman Chey Tae-won visited the MWC venue this year for the first time to encourage SK people and Korean startups working hard to blaze trails in global ICT domains. On Day 1 of MWC 2023 which was the 27th, Chairman Chey Tae-won cheered up SK people and met with CEOs of global leading companies to discuss AI partnerships with them and thereby build greater momentum for a more extended AI ecosystem. In addition, he visited the exhibition booths of other Korean and global companies to garner insights into the latest technological trends and share his aspiration to develop AI in a way to benefit mankind and society.
At MWC 2023 that lasted for four days, SK telecom’s exhibition pavilion attracted more than 50,000 visitors, ending with a thrilling success. At the MWC exhibition, SK telecom was able to demonstrate its AI capabilities that will contribute to our society with caring technologies to provide solutions to challenges faced by the human race and build momentum for new business opportunities.
